The Lit Interior

Lit up on a dark evening, the little restaurant looks like it is still serving.

A wood-framed restaurant opens straight onto the room, deep teal boards against bare red brick. Downstairs, under a hanging lantern, three bears, one in a chef's hat, share a round table piled with pastries, a pretzel and a golden pie. Upstairs, two more lean over the balcony counter beneath a lit wall lamp, small bottles glowing behind them.

The 262 pre-cut pieces build a proper two-storey structure: a balcony on turned balusters, a long open staircase up the left flank, brick-papered walls, plank floors and a carved sign board. Then the props: cups and saucers in their rack, hanging planters, a chalkboard, crates of bread. An intermediate build of four to five hours. The wiring is what brings the windows to life.

For anyone who prefers a scene with characters to an empty room. Warm woods and soft amber light make it easy to live with, and it gives well to a friend who bakes, cooks or collects small comfortable things.

How many pieces are in the Bear Restaurant kit?

How long does it take to build?

Most people finish it in 4–5 hours at an unhurried pace. We rate it intermediate: fine for a careful first-timer with steady hands.

How big is it when finished?

About 15.5 × 11 × 20.6 cm (width × depth × height). It stands upright between the books on a shelf, like a hardback.

Does it light up, and are batteries included?

Yes: Warm-white LED, touch switch. Batteries aren't included, so have some ready for the moment you finish.

What else do I need to build it?

Batteries for the LED light, which aren't in the box. You'll also need craft glue, which isn't in the box. In the box: tweezers and a frosted sanding rod, and the illustrated manual. A craft knife or fine sandpaper helps tidy edges.

Who is it suitable for?

An adult hobby kit, rated 14+ for small parts. It suits readers, miniature makers and anyone who wants a calm, screen-free project, or a gift that lasts longer than the evening it's opened.
